We are one of the very few driving schools in Ontario—alongside Young Drivers of Canada—to offer this advanced safety option to our students.
This specialized package includes 2 full hours of expert instruction, focused on practical defensive driving maneuvers that are essential for handling real-life emergency situations safely and confidently.
What’s Included in the Emergency Maneuver Package?
The Emergency Maneuver Package includes hands-on training in the following areas:
1. Gravel Shoulder Recovery
Students will learn how to safely regain control of the vehicle if it veers onto a gravel shoulder. This maneuver helps prevent overcorrecting or losing control, which can lead to serious accidents.
2. Head-On Collision Avoidance
This technique teaches students how to respond quickly and effectively if a vehicle from the opposite direction drifts into their lane. The goal is to avoid a potential head-on collision through proper steering and hazard assessment.
3. Rear-End Crash Avoidance
Students are trained to respond appropriately if a vehicle is approaching from behind and is likely to cause a collision. Emphasis is placed on:
Hand-over-hand steering
Checking blind spots
Quick situational awareness and reaction time
4. Obstacle Avoidance Swerving
At 40 km/h, students are taught to swerve safely to avoid a sudden object (like a box or animal) that falls into their path. This maneuver focuses on:
Proper steering control
Keeping eyes forward and scanning ahead
Maintaining balance and control during an evasive action
5. Threshold Braking / ABS Emergency Stop
Students practice stopping the vehicle as quickly as possible using threshold braking, a technique that prevents the wheels from locking. This method allows for a shorter, safer stop without skidding—especially effective in emergency braking scenarios.
6. High-Speed Obstacle Avoidance with Braking
In this more advanced drill, students will approach pylons at 60 km/h. Since stopping in time is no longer possible, they must quickly:
Identify an escape route (left or right)
Apply threshold braking
Swerve to avoid the obstacle safely
This teaches fast decision-making and reinforces evasive maneuvering skills under pressure.
Training Environment
Most sessions are held in controlled parking lots using pylons to simulate real-world hazards.
Gravel shoulder recovery is taught on-road—but only under strict safety conditions and supervision.
All lessons are conducted by licensed, experienced driving instructors.
